PRODUCT DETAILS:
For a properly designed spare tire assembly, overall tire height (not wheel diameter) is the important measurement. The overall height of the tires on your vehicle will generally be consistent regardless of the factory wheel size. This allows Modern Spare to design an 18″ spare that is compatible with your vehicle model. *
*Not all fitments will result in an exact match in tire diameter. However, Modern Spare ensures that the tire size used for your vehicle model is the proper size and fit for your vehicle (including AWD, High-performance, and EVs).

This review is relative specifically to a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Limited
Everything that came in the kit worked great: the wheel, the lug nuts, the jack, ratcheting wrench, etc. The only problems/issues (for which I deducted 1 review star) are:
1) The scissor jack has to be extended up to its utmost fullest/tallest height which just barely raises the car high enough off the ground to have enough clearance to slip on the spare tire (in my case in use, a rear tire). Next time I will place a small block of wood (like a scrap 2″ by 4″) between the jack and the ground, to give me the extra needed inch of lift (something I will need to pack into the kit). I struggled to to get the spare tire to align and slip onto the lug bolts because the spare tire was scraping/dragging the ground the whole time even with the jack extended to it’s highest limit. I think this is an issue because the Santa Fe Hybrid sits up higher off the ground than perhaps most cars the universal jack was designed for.
2) When you’re using the ratcheting wrench to raise the jack (the wrench works great), the problem is that as you’re raising the car, the scissor jack nut you’re turning with the ratchet wrench slowly draws further and further underneath the car, no longer extending out past the side of the car. Once you get about 50% of the way raised, there is no longer enough clearance to swing (move) the wrench the full 180-degree arc without the arm of the wrench now hitting the underside of the car. At that point you can only move the wrench in much smaller arc’s, which is a pain and time consuming. Luckily it’s a ratchet, so you don’t have to keep taking off and putting on the wrench over and over. What is needed (which I cannot find anywhere yet) is an extension tool to make the jack nut extend out from under car (away from the jack) another 3″-5″ or so, if you want to be able to use that ratcheting wrench as designed/intended.
Also, be aware that you will need to use the provided lug nuts and the lug nut socket that comes with the kit. The car wheel’s original lug nuts won’t fit into the spare wheel’s smaller lug nut openings.
The car drove perfectly fine without issue, once the spare was mounted.

Aaron, Your feedback is so helpful. Some Santa Fe models (depending on the trim levels and the wheel/tire options) may need more extension on the jack in order to adequately raise the tires. We have developed a jack riser that stabilizes the jack and raises it higher to avoid issues like you experienced. These risers are now included in all Sante Fe kits and we are shipping one out to you. Thank you again for your order. – Modern Spare

Ordered the Modern Spare for my 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Limited after reading review on this site and Modern Spare store on Amazon. Prior to receiving the spare, I ordered and installed the following Kia Spare Carrier part (Part #62800 R5100) from online Kia dealer. Part was a perfect fit requiring no modification as read in several online posts using the Hyundai Spare Carrier part. Upon receipt of my Modern Spare, I installed the spare underneath my car without issue. Spare is not visible at all and found no performance issues with my car with it installed. After reading several posts detailing efforts finding either a matching OEM alloy wheel and buying a used tire to match existing tread wear, opted for the Modern Spare option. Also, Modern Spare has updated their rim so no special lug nuts or lug nut socket needed, you can use the OEM lug nuts.

Excellent! I have a 2025 Sante Fe Hybrid. I was very disappointed with Hyundai that they did not offer an option to get a spare. Especially when we had a flat on the expressway and the “liquid spare” just sprayed out onto the road. We acquired the Hyundai spare tire hardware (based on YouTube recommendations and your spare tire – the dealer even installed it for us and we’re happy campers now that we have the assurance of a ready spare. Thank you!
