Description
The design team at Modern Spare has been hard at work.
As many carmakers continue to eliminate spare tires entirely, the traditional storage space they occupy is likewise being phased out.
For the Tesla Model Y, we have developed a retrofit system that allows for a clean, hidden, and secure method to store your Modern Spare Complete Kit under the main cargo floor. The system is an assembly of Modern Spare-designed components that properly hold and support the spare tire kit, completely out of sight and flush with the floor of the rear cargo area.

Easy to install with the clear instructions. I broke a plastic “clip” on the side trim piece but was able to superglue it back on. The trim pieces do take a bit of oomph to remove. Pull them straight up. You essentially lose the storage bin but you keep the original flat floor. Overall, a good trade off. The price is a bit high but I assume the number of kits they sell is somewhat limited and they have what appears to be a custom designed part. If you want to carry a spare this is a good way to go.

Took me about 2 hours, I think if I did it again would take 1 hour. Hardest part is getting the trim pieces off, trim removal tool that came with kit was a big help. Removing tub in my 2026 Y involved no velcro, instead there were two plastic rivets that came out with pliers on the center of the rivet. The knife seemed unwieldy so I used some really sharp big scissors after partially cutting the foam with the knife to finish cutting. The rear mount took me awhile to get flush with the floor, easy once I figured out how to do it, be sure and check to make sure it is solid after it is fastened. There is loads of room under the tire so I put the jack etc. on the floor there. The straps that hold the tire in the front are the same straps I use back country skiing to hold skis together. You will need a metric wrench for the front straps. I love the system, really happy to get the wheel/tire out of the way. Very pleased.

Very happy with kit. Installation is not super hard but I would not call it easy unless you do this sort of work all the time. Biggest obstacle was getting up the nerve to pull up the trim pieces, they require a lot of force. Watching the installation video 5 times helped. Took me about 2 hours to do installation start to finish. Used a socket wrench. There is lots of room under the spare tire when finished, so I put the jack etc. under the tire rather than on top of the tire.
