All of our spare tire kits include tires designated for “temporary use”. In line with our goal of creating a vastly improved spare tire, these tires are rugged and reinforced with a well-designed tread pattern. The tire has a DOT certified “M” speed rating which indicates the tire has been tested to safely operate at speeds up to 81 mph. So, if we provide a strong, reinforced tire, why then is it designated for “temporary use”?

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Simply put, the narrow size of the tire (which is designed to save space) may result in a braking and handling difference compared to your normal factory tire. For that reason, when the spare is mounted, drive your vehicle with caution in mind and with good judgment. The DOT speed rating is beneficial in situations of heavy, fast-moving traffic, however, it is advised to keep speeds at a minimum until you can reach your repair destination.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_custom_heading text=”RANGE” font_container=”tag:h6|text_align:center|color:%23000000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1609952521944{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Typical spare tires, once provided by the carmakers, had range limits of 50 miles or less. This is primarily due to the extremely small relative size of the spare. The 50-mile limit was considered a safe distance to avoid putting undue strain on the vehicle’s running gear. Many vehicles can be sensitive to tire size differences. Just one of our many design goals here at Modern Spare was to build a spare tire kit that was still space-saving but also is more compatible with your vehicle’s drivetrain. By having a spare tire size that is closer and more properly matched to your factory tire’s diameter, you can travel farther than the typical 50-mile range limit.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]If your Modern Spare is not exactly matched to the overall diameter of your factory tires, the spare will be sized with careful consideration for an allowable size variance. Although we do not state a specific range limit, you will find the Modern Spare to be significantly more capable than a traditional spare. Just as with speed, this capable spare tire is not meant to replace your factory tires rather, it is designed to get you safely home or to a repair facility you choose.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_custom_heading text=”What air pressure (PSI) should I maintain in the Modern Spare Time” font_container=”tag:h6|text_align:center|color:%23000000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1609952894271{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_column_text]

The Modern Spare tires are rated at 60 psi. We advise customers to maintain and use the spare at this pressure. You may notice that we ship the tire out at approximately 55 psi. We do this taking into consideration that there may be changes in elevation between our shipping facility and your delivery location. Changes in elevation can affect air pressure and this allows a range for potential changes. Once you receive your Modern Spare, please check the pressure and adjust the pressure as needed. Again, it is always wise to periodically check the pressure in your Modern Spare to ensure it is ready to use.

The simple answer is, Yes.

For each vehicle listed in our search tool, we have performed extensive testing to ensure proper fitment. Within a specific vehicle model line up, there are various trim and option packages that affect how we design your spare tire kit. Each vehicle model may have fitment requirements unique to that model.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Please read the product descriptions of the spare tire kit compatible with your particular vehicle. Take a further look at the FAQ page which may include answers to fitment questions you have. If you have a question not found here, please reach out to us through our contact and support page. -Drive Confident[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_custom_heading text=”Wheel Size – Will the 18-inch Modern Spare wheel work with my 19-inch or 20-inch factory wheels?” font_container=”tag:h6|text_align:center|color:%23000000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1609953441251{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Yes.

The most important measurement of any spare tire/wheel combination is the overall or “rolling diameter” of the tire (measured total height from tread to tread). In most cases, the rolling diameter of our spare tire is a close match to that of your factory tires. Carmakers allow for safe variations in spare tire sizes without causing strain on your vehicle’s drivetrain.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]If your factory tires are slightly taller or shorter than your Modern Spare tire, we have engineered that spare to work well with your vehicle without concerns of compatibility.

Check out the video below on tire aspect ratio and wheel size.

Yes, with some exceptions.

For car models that still have a spare tire well under the trunk floor, we have designed our kit to utilize this space to store your Modern Spare tire kit.

Worth noting, some car models have a spare tire well but in later model years, this space has been modified and is no longer large enough for the spare. The product description pages for each kit will indicate if you can store the kit in the spare well of your car.

If you do not have adequate space and as some vehicles no longer have a spare tire well at all, we have carefully designed a rugged carrying/storage case. This heavy-duty nylon case keeps the entire kit secured inside while taking up minimal trunk space.

Yes.

Each of our lightweight alloy wheels is designed to fit 2 different bolt patterns. Our goal is to produce spare tire kits of exceptional quality while keeping kit prices affordable. By manufacturing a single wheel designed to fit multiple vehicles, we are able to keep prices down through manufacturing efficiency.

Yes.

With the modern and sophisticated braking systems, many car models have, our careful engineering involved designing a wheel with adequate brake caliper clearance. With the exception of a few models, our wheel design will have clearance for your performance brakes.

Furthermore, for the few specific car models where more clearance is required, we have kits that include a bolt-on wheel spacer. For those vehicles, the product description will provide details on which trim levels and option packages may require this spacer.

If you have questions or need help to identify the right kit for your model, please reach out to our helpful staff via email or phone.

As you may know, the “donut’ spare tires typically provided by carmakers, were barely adequate. They were small, unreinforced tires with a range limit of rarely more than 50 miles. As cars have become more sophisticated, the spare tire was due for an upgrade. Our Modern Spare tires are actual tires. They just happen to be a narrow space-saver size.

Finally, we have chosen this tire so it’s been mounted,

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]you can continue your travels without being concerned about limited range. Our tires are manufactured for normal highway speeds while allowing you to get where you need to go. Each spare tire and wheel is delivered to you mounted, inflated, and ready to use.

Besides being a very attractive wheel, the choice of using a strong aluminum alloy is about providing a good user experience. Keeping the wheel as light as possible has many advantages. For example, when installing the spare, a lighter wheel allows for better maneuvering and placement.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Also, keeping the weight of the spare kit low maintains your fuel efficiency (travel range for electric vehicles) and performance of your car. We choose this ultra-strong aluminum alloy as the obvious choice for a truly Modern Spare.

Typical scissor jacks can be frustrating to use. We set out to improve this as the scissor jack was long overdue for improvement. Our Modern Spare kits offer a newly designed durable jack with a very low profile, a unique ratcheting lift handle and the correct contact point specific for your vehicle’s lifting requirements.

Our low profile design allows you to raise a low-to-the-ground performance car even when it has a flat tire.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The ratcheting handle provides stable leverage to raise your car with ease and safely lower it back down. Each jack is vehicle specific so the contact point is correct for your car’s proper lifting procedure and lift points.

The typical lug wrench offered in spare tire tool kits rarely offered decent leverage. Changing a tire on the roadside is no time to be stumped by a stubborn, overtightened lug nut. The Modern Spare telescoping handle lug wrench provides breaker bar-style leverage, is still compact for storage and also has sockets to fit four different lug sizes. This one tool is ready to tackle the most stubborn lug nuts and make sure the reinstalled lugs are good and snug.

Tesla Performance Models do have unique requirements to consider when designing a proper spare tire kit. Modern Spare has built our spare tires to work with all Tesla Performance Models by allowing clearance for the larger performance brakes and also accommodating the heavier weight of the car’s larger batteries. Though many performance cars may have larger wheel diameters, our spare tire and wheel will share a closely matched overall diameter of your factory wheels.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_custom_heading text=”Non-Performance Model S and Model X – I have heard that some Tesla Models require a spacer for proper fitment. Is this true?” font_container=”tag:h6|text_align:justify|color:%23000000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1609956767934{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

The Tesla Model S and Model X had a rear brake design change in the 2017 and later model years. Tesla has integrated the parking brake system into a larger single rear brake caliper. Most earlier Model S cars had two separate smaller rear brake calipers, But not all newer models had this newer rear brake.

Since the new, single large brake calipers require more clearance to mount the spare, we offer kits that include a convenient bolt-on type wheel spacer that provides the needed clearance.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]To determine if your Tesla Model S or Model X requires this spacer, simply look at the rear brakes (no need to remove the wheels). If you see a single rear brake caliper on each rear wheel, a spacer is required to mount the spare on the rear. If you have two brake calipers on each rear wheel a spacer is NOT required for spare use. If you need assistance in making this determination, please contact us at info@modernspare.com. Modern Spare has designed our spare wheels to accommodate large brake systems. However, there are some models and some brake systems that will require more clearance for a proper fit. For 2010-2015 Camaro SS models, General Motors added small harmonic weights to the brake pads. These were an attempt to reduce brake noise on the high-performance Brembo brakes of the SS models. These small round disc-shaped weights require more clearance to install the spare. For cars with these small brake weights, we recommend a kit that includes the wheel spacer option.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The wheel spacer option is only required when mounting the spare on the front wheels. The only other Gen 5 Camaro (2010-2015) model requiring a spacer is the rare and ultra high-performance Z/28 model.

For 6th generation (2016-2020) Camaro SS models, no spacer is needed and the spare can be mounted directly. The Gen 6 model ZL1 Camaro is the only 2016-2020 model that will require a spacer over the large high-performance brakes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_custom_heading text=”Does My Camaro Have Room For The Spare Under The Trunk floor?” font_container=”tag:h6|text_align:center|color:%23000000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1609958352136{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_empty_space height=”2px”][vc_column_text]

The 5th generation (2010-2015) Camaro still has a spare tire “well” under the trunk floor. We have designed our kit to be installed in this space nicely. Please note – there will be a slight rise (less than 1/2 inch) of the trunk floor once the spare is installed. Please consider buying the spare tire kit without the carrying case. The carrying case is mainly beneficial to cars that do not have a dedicated storage space. The 6th generation Camaro no longer has this space and for these cars, we recommend the complete kit that includes the carrying case. This case helps to keep the kit neatly together while carried in the trunk area
