STEP 1

  • Locate the packing slip, which is attached to the outside of the shipping package or placed inside the kit.

  • Review the component list on the packing slip.

  • Find the description for each component in the expandable list below. (Note: kit contents are model-specific and will vary. Your kit may not include all components listed.)

  • As you review the packing slip, take note of the special instructions and descriptions provided for each component listed below.

  • Verify that each component listed on your packing list is located in your kit.

By confirming that each component is identified—and by familiarizing yourself with its use and purpose—you’ll gain peace of mind knowing you’re well prepared.

Jack Riser

Jack Riser

The Jack Riser is designed to provide additional height to the jack’s raising capacity as well as increased stability. This component is only included and is helpful on vehicles with higher-than-average ground clearance, such as some SUV and Crossover models. The Jack Riser is placed under the jack before being positioned under the vehicle lift points. This component is only offered for certain vehicle models and is included only with orders that include the jack and tools in the selected kit.

Hub Ring

This circular hub ring is an essential component to make the installation of the spare easier. It is only required on certain models. The hub ring helps center the wheel on the vehicle hub properly and keeps lug bolt holes easily aligned when the spare is rotated. The hub ring is inserted into the back of the spare wheel. When you remove the spare wheel after use, please make sure that you remove the hub ring from the vehicle’s hub. If not listed on your packing slip, this component is not needed.

Lug Bolts

Many carmakers use lug bolts or lug nuts that are unique to the factory wheels on your vehicle. If lug bolts or lug nuts are listed on your packing list, remember to ONLY use the provided lug bolts when installing the spare. Do not attempt to use the original factory lugs on the spare. Of course, once the spare is no longer needed and the regular wheel is re-mounted, be sure to use the original lugs. Keep these supplied lug bolts with your spare tire, along with the rest of your spare tire kit. This will ensure they are ready for use the next time a tire failure occurs. If lug bolts or lug nuts are not listed on your packing list, the spare is designed to be used with your factory lugs.

Lug Nuts

Many carmakers use lug bolts or lug nuts that are unique to the factory wheels on your vehicle. If lug bolts or lug nuts are listed on your packing list, remember to ONLY use the provided lug nuts when installing the spare. Do not attempt to use the original factory lugs on the spare. Of course, once the spare is no longer needed and the regular wheel is re-mounted, be sure to use the original lugs. Keep these supplied lug nuts with your spare tire, along with the rest of your spare tire kit. This will ensure they are ready for use the next time a tire failure occurs. If lug bolts or lug nuts are not listed on your packing list, the spare is designed to be used with your factory lugs.

Cross Wrench Lug Wrench Set

High-leverage cross-style lug wrench set for lug nuts and lug bolts. Designed for ideal adherence on shorter lug bolt heads and adequate leverage for overtightened, stubborn lugs. Includes two reversible sockets to fit four lug hex sizes. The wrench set is only included with Complete Spare Tire Kits. Not included with Wheel and Tire Only orders.

Rubber Head Jack W/ Ratcheting Handle

This jack is ideal for many EVs and other vehicles that have lift points, utilizing a flat contact surface. Included in orders where a complete kit option was chosen. The jack is only included with Complete Spare Tire Kits. Not offered with Wheel and Tire Only orders unless purchased separately.

Euro/Pinch Head Jack W/ Ratcheting Handle

This jack is carefully designed by the team at Modern Spare to accommodate a wide variety of unique jacking contact points. Ideal for Mercedes, BMW, and still perfect for more common Pinch-Weld lift points. The jack is only included with Complete Spare Tire Kits. Not offered with Wheel and Tire Only orders unless purchased separately.

Jack Puck Adaptor - Tesla / Volvo

For some vehicle models, your kit will include an adaptor that is used in conjunction with your jack. The adaptor is placed on the top of the jack head and pressed into place. This adapter is designed to ensure the proper placement of the jack under the vehicle’s designated lift point. Only specific models will benefit from this adaptor. Spare tire kits for those models will have the adaptor listed on the packing slip. This item will only be included in orders where a complete kit was selected and the adaptor is compatible with that model.

Alignment Pins

Alignment Pins significantly improve spare tire installation on vehicles that use lug bolts (as opposed to lug nuts). By pre-threading the alignment pins into the two upper lug holes of the vehicle hub, they allow the spare wheel to be placed over the pins, ensuring the wheel is properly aligned with the remaining lug holes. Manually thread in lug bolts and replace the alignment pins with the lug bolts before finalizing installation and fully tightening all lug bolts. Do not leave alignment pins in the hub; replace the pins with the lug bolts, tighten them, and secure the wheel as usual. Alignment pins are not included in all kits. If your vehicle uses lug bolts, alignment pins are available for purchase if you’d like the added convenience they offer.

Compact, Collapsible Wheel Chocks (Pair)

The optional wheel chocks improve safety and stability for your vehicle during a tire change. Once set up, ensure the chocks are placed in the front and the back of the tire that is not being changed. Make sure the slightly curved portion of the chocks is facing the tire. Wheel Chocks are offered in some kit versions (Ultra Kits) and are available to purchase if your kit choice did not include them initially.

Carry Case

The optional carrying case is the ideal storage solution, specifically for vehicle models no longer designed with a designated, traditional spare tire storage space. With the entire spare tire and the optional complete spare tire kit enclosed in the case, the dimensions remain compact, maintaining a total height of roughly 6” when laid flat. This allows for storage in the main trunk or cargo area without sacrificing the bulk of your storage space. The case features padding sewn into the nylon layers, which protects the spare tire kit during transport while also allowing the empty case to be used as a knee pad during the tire change process. The Carry Case is an optional feature and part of the complete kit options listed for vehicle models that do not have traditional spare storage. The case can be purchased separately to use with a wheel and tire only purchase.

Poly Tire Bag

For those purchasing the optional complete spare tire kits, a large poly bag is included with the tool assembly. When transporting a failed, flat tire to a repair shop, place this bag over the failed tire/wheel before placing it inside your vehicle. The purpose of this bag is to help keep your vehicle’s interior clean from dirt, mud, and road grime. The poly bag is only included with Complete Spare Tire kits.

"I can’t believe my car didn’t come with a spare. I got a flat and it took about 4 hours to get me back on the road (I had gashed the tire there’s no way the factory fix a flat would have worked) So, the dealer would have cost about twice Modern Spares cost and it would have been a crappy little spare. Has the global trade uncertainty affected Modern Spare in terms of inventory and price increases?

Yes and no –

Since our humble beginnings in 2016, relying on single manufacturing partners—and more so, partners in some countries that are vulnerable to trade conflict—is something we have avoided. This has proven effective over the years, and we hope it will help us navigate what may come in 2025.

We don’t anticipate significant price increases, if any, in the coming months. The real challenge may be disruptions in global shipping later in 2025 that delay shipments and put strain on inventories.

Thankfully, we’re well stocked now, and most new orders are being shipped out immediately.

Consider this:

If you are thinking of purchasing a spare tire, now may be a good time—just in case the supply disruptions cause delays or lengthy inventory issues.

If you have questions on this or need help selecting the right kit, our spare tire experts are available by phone or email.

Thank you,
– Modern Spare
